Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life

Artificial intelligence today is something that is almost an integral part of our lives. From the voice assistants such as Siri, Alexa to recommendation systems for movies, products and even hospitals, AI is squarely in the middle of many handy operations we cannot imagine our lives without.

Some examples of AI that we interact with regularly include:

Home control devices or systems, smart speakers, and virtual assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri and more. These can listen to commands, respond to queries, play music, remind you of the time, manage smart home devices and functions among others through the use of AI.

Netflix, Spotify, YouTube and other media and entertainment services on behalf of users, suggest these or those services and content taking into consideration user’s preferences. This gives an individual touch or client satisfaction depending on the kind of experience the client desires.

AI is employed in enabling filtering and personalization of posts, understanding texts and images in advertisements, supporting facial recognition for automatic identification of faces in photos, and providing advertisements. The posts and adverts that you see are sometimes as a result of the work of intelligent algorithms.

The current smartphones also include AI capabilities in the camera that helps them recognize scenes and incorporate augmented reality. AI also applies intelligent keyboards that offer word suggestions as you type from deep learning techniques.

From robot vacuum cleaners, smart thermostats, smart bulbs to kitchen utensils, all these are smart items that use Artificial Intelligence to perform tasks and follow instructions. Voice assistants are also being incorporated in these home appliances as well as.

Automotive applications such as self-driving cars rely on AI and machine learning to build the necessary navigation and perception for the passengers without requiring the intervention of the driver. Although fully self-driving autos are under development, related cars that leverage AI represent a significant innovation.

This is especially so, given the increasing sophistication of AI technologies that underpin these systems, allowing ever more facets of both our digital and physical worlds to become adaptive, anticipatory, and proactive, in how they respond to us, and how they meet our requirements and expectations. The future of AI looks promising and the technology is expected to become increasingly integrated into people’s daily experience. On the one hand, people are grateful for the opportunity to use AI and its benefits, on the other hand, the regulation of ethical AI development is also justified, as it allows maintaining the rights of users and preserving their privacy.
